Czech producer adds its weight to UK aerosol-can recycling campaign

Alupro has pledged to “accelerate” a campaign to recycle more aerosol containers, after signing up a fresh funding partner.

The aluminium packaging trade body hailed the decision by Czech producer Moravia Cans to join the UK Aerosol Recycling Initiative (UKARI).

This movement aims to achieve a 50 per cent recycling rate for aerosol containers by 2030.

It has waste-composition sampling programmes in progress in Solihull and Manchester, and communications initiatives set to launch next month.

Moravia Cans chief executive Martin Boaler said the firm was “delighted” to join UKARI as a funding partner.

“As a leading producer of aluminium aerosol cans, we appreciate the importance of tackling misconceptions in the marketplace, building a deeper understanding of consumer behaviours and driving campaigns to increase recycling rates,” he added.

Alupro executive director Tom Giddings added: “The key ambitions of UKARI are threefold – embrace a sustainable future, inspire change and drive progress towards a 50 per cent aerosol recycling rate by 2030.

“We have big plans for the initiative and, with the backing of Moravia Cans, will be able to further accelerate our activity in the months to come.”
