The European Commission has called for evidence as it draws up a Circular Economy Act.
It launched an online consultation on 1 August that will remain open until 6 November.
Due for adoption next year, the Act is designed to establish a single market for secondary raw materials.
The Commission hopes it will increase the supply and demand of high-quality recyclate.
It said the consultation was “a significant step” in the impact assessment process and would enable it to gather input from a wide range of stakeholders including the public.
Lawmakers hope to gain a “better understanding the bottlenecks and opportunities for the wider deployment of a circular economy”.
The Commission added: “This consultation will also allow the Circular Economy Act to align with key EU initiatives, such as the Competitiveness Compass, the Single Market Strategy, the Steel and Metals Action Plan and the implementation of relevant recently adopted legislations such as the Eco-design for Sustainable Products Regulation, the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation and the Critical Raw Materials Act.
“All stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the online consultation using the Have Your Say portal.”
