Major fire at Worcester recycling centre set to last for over 48 hours

Fire chiefs expect a blaze at a recycling centre in Worcester to take at least two days to put out.

Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service sent seven crews to the incident on Blackpole Trading Estate West in the town.

The service was called shortly before 2am on Wednesday 10 September and said it expected to be on site until “at least” Friday 12 September.

Fire chiefs described a “recycling warehouse” as being “well alight” when they first attended.

Two main jets were used to tackle the blaze, along with four hose-reel jets taking water from a hydrant.

Crews were called in from Wyre Forest, Bromsgrove, Droitwich, Evesham and Malvern as well as Worcester.

Police attended primarily for traffic control. No casualties were reported.

Fire crews were working with site owners to clear fire-damaged waste to an “appropriate” site.
