A local authority in the East Midlands is to deliver new glass bins to residents from the start of next week.
Rushcliffe Borough Council said it would begin the rollout of more than 50,000 of the containers on Monday 1 September.
The local authority is gearing up for a glass kerbside-collection service that will begin in December.
It is distributing purple-lidded 180-litre bins to residents to boost collection of the material.
Rushcliffe said its “extensive” network of bring and bank sites for glass and Tetra Pak cartons would be scaled back in January ahead of the changes.
Councillor Rob Inglis said: “The new glass recycling bins have arrived at a local depot, and we’re set to start delivering them to households from September 1 ready for use from December.
“This is an important service change that affects everyone and aims to standardise what materials are collected for recycling across all local authorities to further improve recycling rates locally and nationally.”
Under the forthcoming Simpler Recycling system, glass can be collected alongside plastic and metals in a four-bin system expected to be the default for most households from March 2026.
