Alupro urges councils to promote recycling of Easter egg foil

Alupro is encouraging councils to use its free resources for promoting recycling over Easter.

The aluminium packaging membership body said the ‘Munch, Scrunch, Recycle!’ campaign offered a simple way for local authorities to engage with residents on waste.

Alupro said almost 90 million Easter eggs would be sold in the UK this month, most of them wrapped in aluminium foil.

Its resources, including graphics for social media, are designed to maximise kerbside capture rates of this recyclable material.

A third of UK councils used assets from Alupro last year.

The organisation will also run its own competitions on social media and place targeted adverts in Sainsbury’s Magazine.

Tom Giddings, executive director at Alupro, said: “Easter is the perfect time to remind people about best-practice recycling.

“The aluminium foil from Easter eggs is 100 per cent recyclable and can be easily repurposed into something valuable if presented properly at the kerbside.”
