Contract negotiations that will see FCC Environment treat the residual waste from Buckinghamshire County Council have been concluded.

The company will thermally treat the waste throughout the 30 years of the contract at an energy from waste facility at Greatmoor, near Aylesbury, with the project being financed through an innovative use of construction-only finance and prudential borrowing.

FCC Environment chief executive Paul Taylor said: “We are delighted to have reached this important milestone with Buckinghamshire County Council, and are looking forward now to delivering the facilities and an integrated service that the county can be proud of.

“This is also an important step forward in FCC Environment’s continuing development as a business that understands its customers’ requirements for extracting value, in the form of energy, from the waste left over after recycling has taken place.”

Buckinghamshire County Council named FCC Environment as its preferred bidder in 2011 for its residual waste contract. Planning permission for the facility was granted last year along with the Environment Agency awarding the environmental permit.

The new facility will treat up to 300,000 tonnes of residual waste each year and will generate 22MW of electricity.
