Drinks manufacturer Capri Sun has launched a recyclable container in the UK.
The Swiss firm said the mono-material polypropylene pouch would eventually be rolled out across Europe.
It replaces a non-recyclable container made from laminated layers of plastic and aluminium.
Capri Sun Group claims the new pouch is five times lighter than a PET bottle and has just a third of the carbon footprint.
Capri Sun said the launch was a “significant step” towards fulfilling its commitment to transition its entire drinks range to fully recyclable packaging.
Group chief executive Roland Weening told BBC News: “A lot of consumers in the UK reached out to us regarding their packaging.
“It is a significant investment that took a lot of years. We put millions into research and development.”
Weening insisted the product would help others in the industry. “This is about working together to achieve a circular economy.”
