Visitors to UK attractions including Alton Towers, Legoland and Brighton Sea Life Aquarium can win VIP experiences this summer by recycling empty drinks bottles.

Merlin Entertainments is partnering with Coca-Cola for a third consecutive year to incentivise responsible waste management with prizes for using reverse vending machines.

From now until 6 September, the public can participate in the promotion via 28 units installed across 11 sites.

Staff and apps will guide people to the vibrant machines to recycle 500ml plastic bottles and they can enter the VIP competition via a website printed on the receipt they receive.

Prizes include a private history tour at Warwick Castle, a Royal Box experience at the Blackpool Tower Circus, and the 127ft climb of one of the UK’s tallest rollercoasters at Thorpe Park.

Dare Ilori, sustainability director at Merlin, said plastic waste was a “pressing environmental issue”.

“We are dedicated to raising awareness and implementing effective and measurable solutions,” he added.

“Partnering with Coca-Cola for the third consecutive year on this impactful initiative, we are proud to inspire and educate our guests on the importance of reducing, returning and recycling plastic waste.”
