Companies now required to report on environmental activity

Measures have come into force that mean large- and medium-sized companies must report their greenhouse gas emissions.

The Climate Change Act 2008 requires companies from 1 October 2013 to publish their greenhouse gas emissions and activities to reduce them as part of annual company reports.

While new regulations introduced by the current Government under the Companies Act 2006 means that large- and medium-sized companies will need to publish a Strategic Report that sets out the company’s strategy and business model and the risks and challenges they face in the coming year.

Companies will need to outline in this Strategic Report their environmental, social and human rights issues, including key performance indicators.
