Cornwall visitor attraction Eden Project has dedicated itself to recycling disposable cups by joining the Simply Cups collection and recycling scheme.
By using a closed-loop system, it will be selling various products at its gift shop, produced by its own recycled cups.
Simply Cups co-founder Peter Goodwin has said: “Working with Simply Cups, the Eden Project will not only have the reassurance that all of its single-use cups will be recycled and transformed into new products, it will also be able to sell back these products to its visitors, making it the first attraction in the UK to offer a closed-loop system for beverage cups.”
As the Eden Project is top tourist attraction, with more than one million people visiting annually, it serves ranges of hot and cold drinks, with a majority of them in crockery, which are washed and re-used.
The attraction also offers a discount to people who bring their own cup and offer a re-usable bamboo cup for purchase.
Eden will place multiple cup collection bins around the site, which Simply Cups will then bulk collect and reprocess into its NextCupCycle™polymer.
Product designers and manufacturers, Ashortwalk, will then mould the resin into various products, displacing the virgin plastic.
The products will be sold at Eden’s gift shop, including reusable cups, stationary and gift items.
