An Essex local authority was forced to cancel planned kerbside collections of recyclable material due to the heatwave this week.
Colchester City Council suspended pick-ups of paper, plastic, cans and glass from households on Tuesday 1 July.
The local authority said the decision was made “to prioritise crew safety and maintain essential services”.
Temperatures hit 30 degrees in Colchester on Tuesday afternoon and the Met Office issued an amber weather warning for swathes of the country.
The city council redirected its collection vehicles to pick up general refuse as well as food, garden and business waste.
“We ask households due a recycling collection on [1 July] not to put out recycling,” said the local authority.
“Residents are asked to hold on to recycling until their next scheduled collection.”
The council was aiming to resume usual collection rounds from today as temperatures dropped.
