CCL Label has introduced “revolutionary” adhesive labels it claims will “significantly increase the yield of high-quality recycled glass”.
The US-headquartered global packaging producer said its EcoShear technology enabled “nearly residue-free removal” during reprocessing.
Just over 80 per cent of glass containers used in the EU were collected for recycling in 2023, according to latest figures from Close the Glass Loop.
CCL claimed its innovation could help drive the rate up further.
“While glass recycling has proven to be successful, there remain additional ways you can continue to improve the recycling yield, starting with glass decorations such as labels,” said Anja Rockstroh, who works in development and technology for CCL Label in Germany.
“With EcoShear, CCL introduces a revolutionary adhesive technology developed specifically for single-use glass bottles and jars and other containers.”
CCL said the moisture-resistant material used for the labels created “an attractive clear-on-clear appearance” as well as “unlimited design possibilities and increased shelf appeal”.
The company added that EcoShear “enables nearly residue-free removal during recycling”, which “reduces glass waste and significantly increases the yield of high-quality recycled glass”.
