New Quality Protocol to help sustainable tyre recycling

The Tyre Recovery Association has updated the PAS 107 standard for tyre recycling by adding a new Quality Protocol Option.

This option accompanies the existing PAS107:12 that covers the manufacture and storage of size-reduced tyre-derived materials.

Secondary Commodity Markets 2015 – the conference for buyers and sellers of recyclable materials takes place on 3 March 2015 in London. Find out more here

The update of the PAS has been carried out in close cooperation with the Environment Agency and is already endorsed by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales.

As the Quality Protocol identifies the point at which waste, having been fully recovered, may be regarded as a non-waste product that can be used in specified markets without the need for waste management controls, this should enable proper recognition of tyre-derived materials in the future.

The Tyre Recovery Association will become the first certification body for the protocol.
