It will treat 96,000 tonnes of waste per year using Energos technology and will be situated on the industrial site Magnetic Park.

A planning application was submitted in July and has been granted by councillors from Northamptonshire County Council.

Origin Renewable Energy managing director Adam Buxton said: “We are sympathetic to people’s concerns but we can’t please everyone.

“This plant would be of benefit to the people of Desborough and the county. People would have access to sustainable and cheaper forms of heat and power.”

Construction is expected to being in 2013 with the site completed by 2015.

Origin Renewable Energy will now need to apply for an environmental permit from the Environment Agency before construction can begin.
