India, Vietnam and Turkey drove an improvement in OCC exports in October, but mixed was getting most interest from Europe and India. But for news & pams it was a weaker month.
A total of 188,302 tonnes of OCC was exported in October, up from 158,739 tonnes in September. This made it the strongest month since June.
Mixed was up to 127,240 tonnes in October, compared to 109,946 tonnes in the previous month. This was the best month for this grade since May.
But news & pams fell to 23,634 tonnes, down from September’s 30,701 tonnes.
OCC – Commodity code 470710
India was the No.1 destination for OCC exports in October reaching 41,653 tonnes, from 31,725 tonnes in September.
Vietnam grew to 39,274 tonnes from 31,372 tonnes in the previous month.
Turkey was also up significantly in October to 29,281 tonnes compared to just 12,015 in September. This was the best month since May for exports to Turkey.
Malaysia was relatively stable with 26,337 tonnes, down just a bit from September’s 26,780 tonnes.
Exports to the EU fell again and have dropped by almost a third between from July’s 57,090 tonnes to just 21,121 tonnes in October. This was down from 24,661 tonnes in September.
The Netherlands was barely changed with 7,955 tonnes just 20 tonnes lower than the previous month.
Germany dropped to 5,278 tonnes in October, compared to 6,773 tonnes the month before.
France was also down to 4,996 tonnes from September’s 5,984 tonnes.
Belgium lowered to 1,596 tonnes in October, after importing 1,903 tonnes in September.
Next after the EU was Indonesia which increased a touch in October to 16,812 tonnes, from September’s 16,229 tonnes.
Thailand fell to 11,945 tonnes, from 14,821 tonnes in September.

Mixed paper – Commodity code 470790
India continued to be the main buyer of mixed paper in October taking 48,732 tonnes, increasing from 35,666 tonnes in September.
After this was the entire EU with 30,711 tonnes, also up compared to September’s 25,260 tonnes. The Netherlands was by far the key destination here with 19,281 tonnes of this going via there, up from 13,999 tonnes in September. Germany took 7,990 tonnes (5,440 tonnes in September) and France 1,742 tonnes (1,683 tonnes in September).
Vietnam was next after the EU with 18,826 tonnes, up just a little on September’s 18,370 tonnes.
Indonesia also increased its imports from the UK in October with 13,624 tonnes heading there, up from 10,607 tonnes in the previous month.
But Thailand was down to 8,999 tonnes, compared to 10,599 tonnes in September.
Malaysia increased imports a little to 2,537 tonnes, from 2,125 in the preceding month.
Turkey brought in 2,033 tonnes from the UK, compared to 821 tonnes in September.

News & Pams – Commodity code 470730
The EU remained the premier destination for this grade, but it fell to 13,162 tonnes in October from 16,882 tonnes in September. 9,059 tonnes of this went to Germany, compared to 13,096 tonnes in the previous month. Exports to the Netherlands were hardly changed with 2,359 tonnes in October up from September’s 2,299 tonnes.
Exports to India from the UK also eased back to 8,909 tonnes compared to 10,698 tonnes a month earlier.
Turkey imported 1,360 tonnes, up from 1,213 tonnes in September.
