Six progressive small businesses have secured £10,000 of support each to grow their influence in the circular economy.
The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) announced the firms as winners of a competition it launched in March.
They will receive tailored help with their marketing, communications and brand development through the organisation’s Circular Economy Innovators Fund.
More than 100 applications were made for the prize, all of which were assessed by a carefully-chosen panel.
Clothing design and upcycling software developer Loom; circular economy consultancy Maconda Solutions; and alternative-material producer MarinaTex were among the winners.
The Little Loop, a circular marketplace for children’s clothing; Velorim, which recycles bicycle tyres, inner tubes and Li-ion batteries; and repair and refurbishment outfit WEEE Scotland also secured the funding.
CIWM technical manager Richard Hudson said: “Small and micro businesses, like those selected for support through the CIWM Circular Economy Innovators Fund, are the foundation on which the circular economy will be built.
“We are confident that the provision of brand, marketing and communications expertise will help these innovators to better tell their stories, continue to raise their profile and leverage the potential to scale up their operations.”
