US proposes 25% tariff to Chinese buyers of paper making technology

Chinese mill groups looking to buy paper and board making machinery and equipment from the US, may face a further 25% cost in the form of a new tariff.

The US Government has issued a consultation on over 1,300 products that will be subject to a 25% tariff in 60 days time.

Among the products listed are machinery for making paper and paperboard, as well as parts for these machines.

Technology for making boxes and finishing paper products are also included. Cylinders used for making paper and paperboard are also named as potentially subject to the 25% tariff.

In retaliation, the Chinese government has proposed its own tariffs on goods including some primary plastics.
