Wales could become circular economy leader, says report

A report has found that Wales is ideally placed to upgrade to a circular economy.

Commissioned by WRAP on behalf of the Welsh Government and written by the Ellen Macarthur Foundation, Wales and the Circular Economy: Favourable system conditions and economic opportunities finds that the circular economy could deliver ‘manifold’ benefits for Wales.

It has the potential to create jobs, deliver positive economic benefits and cost savings throughout industry.

Under certain circumstances, the savings could be as great as £2 billion in material costs along, although this includes part of the supply chain that are outside Wales.

The report outlines recommendations on how to make the Welsh economy more circular and highlights Welsh businesses which are already demonstrating circular economy thinking in their work.

This includes Courtauld Commitment and Hospitality and Food Service Agreement signatory SA Brain, furniture manufacturer Orangebox and waste electricals specialist Metech.
