Aldi has transitioned its entire own-label soft drinks and bottled water range to 100% recycled plastic (rPET) in England and Wales.

This initiative excludes only the cap and label, making Aldi the first supermarket in the UK to achieve this milestone.

The shift to recycled content is expected to save approximately 10,000 tonnes of virgin plastic annually. The supermarket aims to incorporate 50% recycled content into its plastic packaging across the business by 2025.

It has also introduced new labelling to encourage customers to recycle their packaging after use. Increasing recycling rates in the UK is a critical goal, and Aldi aims to play its part in achieving it.

The circular economy principles underpin Aldi’s approach. By using recycled content, the supermarket contributes to closing the loop and minimising the use of virgin materials.

Aldi recently launched the UK’s first supermarket own-brand paper wine bottles. These bottles replace glass with packaging made from 94% recycled paperboard, lined with a food-grade pouch to hold the wine.
