Waste giant Biffa has supported a Christmas single made in partnership with Wakefield Council and pupils from Kettlethorpe High School.

Recycling Christmas, written by Johnny Carr from Yorkshire company JC Image & Film Co, features the chorus line “reduce, reuse, recycle again”.

Other lines include: “Christmas comes just once a year, but that plastic doesn’t just disappear.”

Drew Pearson, contract director of Biffa Wakefield said: “This collaboration has been a fantastic opportunity to engage with the community and highlight the importance of recycling in a fun and creative way.

“We hope this song will inspire the students at Kettlethorpe High School and the wider community to change the way they think about waste this Christmas. By making a few changes, we can reduce waste and recycle more during the festive season and beyond.”

Carr described working with the pupils on the song as “incredibly rewarding”.

“This project showcases the power of music to bring people together and promote positive change,” he added.

Jack Hemingway, Wakefield Council cabinet member for environment and climate change, said: “We hope that this song will help people to increase how much they recycle, especially those items that we see more of over the Christmas period, because it really does make a difference.”
