Germany’s Landbell Group and Saudi chemicals and oil firm SABIC have signed a long-term co-operation agreement.

The two companies will work together on establishing and further developing innovative processes to increase feedstock streams, technology and know-how to scale-up advanced recycling operations.

This new agreement builds on a previous one signed in 2020 to develop jointly circular economy solutions and another one in 2022 that involved food manufacturer Mars and closing the loop on flexible packaging.

It is hoped that this new agreement will encourage brand owners to incorporate circular solutions from chemical recycling in their packaging.

Landbell will supply mixed plastic packaging waste from Germany’s yellow bag collection as raw material for advanced recycling.

At a pre-treatment plant operated by A. Siemer Entsorgung, further sorting and cleaning takes place. The material will then be provided to the SABIC Plastic Energy Advanced Recycling Unit, that is currently being constructed.
