Novelis’ recycled content evercan to make debut with craft beer

The Novelis evercan aluminium beverage can sheet will make its worldwide commercial debut when it launches with the Red Hare Brewing Company.

Made with a minimum 90 per cent recycled aluminium content, the sheet will be used to package the craft beer from May in the southeastern US.

Novelis president and chief executive Phil Martens said: “This introduction marks the commercial availability of the world’s first certified high-recycled content aluminium beverage can. Working with Red Hare, we have developed a proven supply chain to deliver this industry-first offering to consumers, setting an example that other beverage companies are sure to follow.”

Red Hare Brewing Company founder and chief executive Roger Davis said: “Novelis’ evercan is a perfect fit for Red Hare. The independent certification of the closed-loop recycling process behind evercan strengthens our commitment to enjoying the best in sustainable business practices, making evercan a natural extension of the Red Hare brand.”

The evercan sheet is available globally to beverage companies and is part of Novelis’ ambition to use 80 per cent recycled content in its aluminium across the business by 2020. The evercan is audited by SCS Global Services.
