Paper, plastics and metal prices all up, but big rises on the way for shipping containers

Last week’s Intelligence report showed price rises for a number of key grades.

But with huge increases in the cost of shipping containers occurring from mid-March hitting exporters, any further price rises for recyclable materials could be tempered.

OCC was up by a further £4 per tonne this week, while mixed increased by £2 per tonne. Domestic and European demand for news & pam pushed this grade back up above mixed paper.

Plastics also saw rises on the back of Chinese demand and an increased PRN with PET and HDPE bottles up by £10 per tonne. But film was not quite so in demand, but still managed an increase of £5 per tonne.

Copper grades increased by £50 per tonne, but otherwise metals were stable.
