Plastics company Trinseo to buy recycler Heathland

Swiss plastics and latex manufacturer Trinseo has reached agreement to acquire Dutch plastic collector and recycler Heathland.

Based in Utrecht, Heathland is focused on converting post-consumer and post-industrial PMMA, PC, ABS, PS and other thermoplastics.

Heathland uses both mechanical and chemical recycling processes on these plastics. It operates in The Netherlands, Poland and Hong Kong.

Trinseo senior Vice President and chief sustainability officer Francesca Reverberi said: “We are thrilled to enter into a definitive agreement with Heathland and look forward to growing together as we learn from their significant recycling expertise.

“In order to be successful as a sustainable solutions provider, it is essential that we have access to comprehensive recycling technologies and can secure plastic wastes as feedstock. This agreement is an extension of our commitment to investing in the movement toward a circular economy.”

Trinseo hopes that the acquisition will help it secure a reliable source of recycled feedstock through both collection of plastics and enhancing the ongoing development of plastic recycling technologies.
