Please note this report just focuses on the waste polymers of ethylene commodity code (391510), as exports of other plastics are relatively small in volume
After a poor May, exports of recycled plastics dropped even further in June, according to the latest HMRC statistics.
Just 16,384 tonnes left the UK in June, down from 22,766 tonnes in May. For comparison purposes, 47,850 tonnes was exported in April, although it was a strong month in recent history.
Almost all of this went to the EU in June, following the closure of Turkey in particular. This may change in future months now that Turkey is re-opening to certain grades and under strict conditions.
The primary destination was the Netherlands, with 5,633 tonnes, up from 4,309 tonnes in May.
Spain was next with 1,972 tonnes, down from 2,505 tonnes in the preceding month.
Italy followed taking 1,721 tonnes from the UK in June compared to 2,295 tonnes the month earlier.
Belgium imported 1,552 tonnes, falling from May’s 1,704 tonnes.
Germany took 1,237 tonnes up from 691 tonnes in May.
