Metal recycler and exporter S Norton has acquired the staff and site of a Glasgow rival.
The firm, founded in the 1960s, secured a plot on the banks of the River Clyde from JR Adam, along with all 43 of its workers.
It also took on a second site in the city from Thistle Metals. These facilities add to S Norton’s presence in London, North West England and Southampton.
The company said the Glasgow facilities would “significantly increase” its capacity to collect, process and export waste metals from the UK.
The larger site spans 7ha and is fully equipped with waste metals processing and export capabilities.
Meanwhile the much smaller Glasgow East plot will operate as a feeder facility receiving ferrous and non-ferrous metals from both the trade and the general public.
Managing director Tony Hayer said: “S Norton has been in business for over 60 years and is at the forefront of the metals recycling industry.
“The acquisition of the Glasgow sites is part of our plan to grow the S Norton Group and marks a significant step towards achieving our vision of working together towards a world where nothing goes to waste.
“I am delighted to welcome our new employees, suppliers and customers in Scotland. We’re open for business in Glasgow and we’re looking forward to working with you all”.
