The USA is now the “lead exporter” of recovered paper to China, according to president of the BIR’s paper division, Ranjit Baxi.
Mr Baxi told delegates at the Paper Round Table, in Barcelona that recovered paper exporters from the US are increasing market share on quality. He went on to highlight issues around freight rates and slowing Chinese demand that were presenting real challenges for paper traders and exporters.
The SCM Global Index for Paper hit 105.29 last week which is the highest figure recorded for any material since the index began.
