The Turkish Government has said that its waste inspection officers will be moved onto 24/7 working patterns in order to ensure imported material can be better inspected.

A directive from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change has changed the working patterns of inspectors so that shifts can be arranged to fulfil inspections all day, every day including public holidays.

As a result, a total of 16 additional inspection officers will be recruited, meaning an additional four people per shift.

The reasoning behind this is to ensure at least two technical personnel are present at each inspection and to increase the amount of containers and trucks inspected.

Imported waste materials will be subject to evaluation of both documents and physical inspections and checked by inspection officers to ensure they meet the notification. If the load passes the inspection, then a letter of conformity for import will be issued.

This new process begins immediately.
