Recycling and waste company Viridor has been awarded a one-year contract plus an option to extend for a 12-month period by Brent Council to sort mixed recyclable materials from households.

Viridor will sort and market the council’s estimated 22,000 tonnes of recyclates at its MRF in Crayford, Kent.

From 1 April, residents in Brent will now be able to recycle all types of plastic containers as well as books, a wider range of metal items and the current glass, plastic bottles, cartons, aluminium and steel cans, mixed paper and cardboard.

Viridor bid manager June Barlow said: “We already work with many local authorities in the capital helping them recover valuable materials for recycling and we are delighted to have been chosen by Brent as its recycling partner. We are confident that working together, recycling levels across the borough will continue to improve, reducing needlessly disposal of resources and its associated costs.”
