Packaging producer UPM Specialty Papers has promised to showcase a range of recyclable-material “breakthroughs” created in partnership with experts and customers at European trade fair Fachpack 2024.
The Helsinki-based firm said it had a number of fibre-based innovations to display at the event in Nuremberg later this month.
UPM Speciality Papers has been working with a number of partners on packaging items that support sustainability goals and legislation.
It said items it would showcase at Fachpack included a high-barrier concept that achieved “ground-breaking” defences against oxygen and moisture using water-based coatings and was suitable for “demanding end-uses” such as coffee or chocolate.
The firm has worked with Henkel and Koenig & Bauer on a separate solution providing excellent sealing properties for confectionery.
UPM Specialty Papers will also display a heat-sealable, recyclable packaging for Fazer Oat Rice Pies, which are found in the chilled aisles at supermarkets.
It has worked with Unipaco on a salad-pot wrapper that has just an extremely thin polythene layer to replace traditional plastic packaging.
And it partnered with BOBST and Michelman to develop a recyclable paper-based packaging for products with a long shelf-life such as coffee and spices.
