Carbios has produced a biologically recycled plastic bottle for L’Occitane en Provence.

The French technology firm created the transparent PET container for the cosmetics brand’s Amande shower oil.

Made from waste plastic material, the breakthrough bottle will be displayed this week at a Paris trade show.

The parties said it represented a shared desire to build an efficient European recycling sector to accelerate the transition to a circular economy.

The bottle’s production began with the supply of local PET waste, such as multi-layer trays, to the Carbios industrial demonstrator in Clermont-Ferrand.

This was deconstructed using biorecycling technology before the resulting monomers were repolymerised into fully recycled resins.

In Oyonnax, these resins were blow-molded by Pinard Beauty Pack to create bottles according to L’occitane’s specifications, before being filled with the brand’s shower oil at its Manosque plant.

Carbios chief executive Emmanuel Ladent said the innovative process “accelerates the transition to a circular economy by offering an alternative to petro-sourced PET. and a circular PET-recycling solution that reduces carbon emissions by 57 per cent.”
